W I S P Y

This tut was written on March 23, 2011.
It is written using PSPX; I'm sure the same effects are available in other versions.

SUPPLIES
A tube.
I'm using the work of Elias Chatzoudis.
This tube was purchased when this artist was with MPT.
You may purchase a license to use this work at PTE.

The following filters:
MuRa's Meister - Copies
L en K - Trouble
Toadies - What Are You?

Font of choice (I'm using "Kato")

Let's begin!

Choose a medium color from your tube, set the other color to white for now.

Open a new image, 600x70

Fill with your medium color, this is only temporary and will be deleted later.

Add a new layer.

Selection Tool - Custom Selection using the following setting:

Fill the selection with white.

Selections - Select None.

MuRa's Meister - Copies using the following setting:

Using your magic wand, click on the spaces between these two lines:

Selections - Modify - Expand by 1.

Fill this selection with white.

Image - Canvas Size to 600x250, putting the extra 180 pixels at the top.

Hide the white layer for now, and delete the temporary background layer.

Add a new layer, fill with the medium color.

Duplicate this layer.

L en K - Trouble using the default setting.

Change the layer setting of this layer to Luminance (Legacy) and the opacity to 80.

Layers - Merge - Merge Down.

Effects - Edge Effects - Enhance.

Pick a very dark color from the side of this image - a very dark shade of your medium color.

Effects - Texture Effects - Weave using the following setting, change the two color boxes to your new dark color:

Highlight the white layer.

Effects - Distortion Effects - Warp using the following setting:

Toadies - What Are You?, changing both numbers to 10.

Duplicate this layer.

On the bottom layer, Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow using 1, 1, 100, 1, black.

Change the layer setting to Luminance (Legacy), and the opacity to 80.

On the top layer, Image - Mirror and Image - Flip.

Change the layer setting to Overlay.

Make sure the dark color is your background color, and change the foreground to nil.

Preset Shape - Circle, create on vector.

Starting in the very upper-left corner, draw a big circle (about 240px wide.)

Objects - Align - Vert. Center in Canvas.

Layers - Convert to Raster Layer.

Toadies - What Are You? - default setting (both numbers at 20.)

Change the layer setting to Soft Light.

Duplicate this layer.

Image - Mirror.

Add a new layer.

Selection Tool - Custom Selection using the following setting:

Floodfill with white.

Selections - Select None.

Adjust - Blur - Radial Blur using the following setting:

Toadies - What Are You? using the default setting.

Effects - Edge Effects - Enhance.

Adjust - Add/Remove Noise - Add Noise using Uniform, 12, Monochrome unchecked.

Add your tube and a blurry drop shadow (I used Eye Candy 5 Impact - Perspective Shadow).

Add a new layer.
Add a 2px Selection border, using your dark color.

Add your name and all necessary copyright information.

For the avatar:

Duplicate your tag (Shift + D.)

Remove all necessary layers.

Crop to 150x150.

Add a new layer.

Add a 2px Selection border, using your dark color.

Add your name  (or initial) and all necessary copyright information.

Here is another example, using the work of Michael DiPascale:
