E F F E C T S
This tut was written on March 6, 2011. It is written using PSPX; I'm sure the same effects are available in other versions.
SUPPLIES A tube and an optional closeup. I'm using the work of PinUp Toons. This tube was purchased when this artist was with CILM. You may purchase a license to use this work at CDO.
The following filters: Filter Factory U - Gradient On Path MuRa's Meister - Copies
Font of choice (I'm using "Lavender Script")
Let's begin!
Set your foreground to a lighter color from your tube, your background to a darker color.
Open a new image, 600x250
Fill with a linear gradient (Angle = 0; Repeats = 10)
Add a new layer.
Fill with the same gradient, but change the Repeats to 11.
Add another new layer.
Fill with the same gradient, but change the Repeats to 12.
Repeat all these steps on EACH layer (hide two layers while you are working on one):
1. Effects - Distortion Effects - Polar Coordinates Check Polar to Rectangular.
2. Duplicate the layer.
3. Image - Flip Change the opacity to 50.
4. Layers - Merge Visible.
5. Effects - Distortion Effects - Pixelate. Both boxes set at 20.
6. Effects - Edge Effects - Enhance.
When you are finished, you will have three slightly different layers.
Highlight the top layer.
Add a new layer.
Selection Tool - Custom Selection using the following setting:
Fill with an even darker shade of the same color. Change the opacity of this layer to 65.
Adjust - Add/Remove Noise - Add Noise using Uniform, 12.
Add your tube. Add a blurry drop shadow.
For the element.
Open a new image, 150x150.
Floodfill with your original dark color.
Selections - Selection All.
Selections - Modify - Contract by 30.
DELETE.
Selections - Select All. Selections - Float. Selections - Defloat.
Duplicate this layer.
Filter Factory U - Gradient On Path. You may have to fiddle with the settings, you are looking for a good contrast.
Change the layer setting of this layer to Luminance (Legacy).
Eye Candy 5 - Impact - Glass using the following setting:
Edit - Copy Merged.
On your main tag, Edit - Paste as New Layer.
MuRa's Meister - Copies using the line preset, changing the number from 8 to 3.
Add the same blurry drop shadow you used on the tube.
Add a 2px Selection border, using your dark color.
Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow using 2, 2, 58, 3, black and -2, -2, 58, 3, black.
Add your name and all necessary copyright information.
Animate as usual.
For the avatar:
Duplicate your tag (Shift + D.)
Delete the layer with your tube.
Crop to 150x150.
Add your name (or initial.)
Here is another example, using the work of Ismael Rac:

Awesome!
I usually don't like poser style tubes, but I thought this one was really cute. And, it seemed to work well with the tut.
So glad you liked it!
