T R A N S

This tut was written on October 20, 2010.
It is written using PSPX; I'm sure the same effects are available in other versions.

SUPPLIES
A tube.
I'm using the work of Ismael Rac. You need to purchase a license to use this work from his store HERE.

The following filters:
VM Extravaganza - Transmission
DSBFlux - Bright Noise

Font of choice (I'm using "A&S Heartbeat")

Let's begin!

Pick two colors from your tube - a lighter color in the foreground, a darker shade of the same color in the background.

Open a new image, 200x200.

Floodfill your image with a foreground gradient - Sunburst, Repeats 3.

Add a new layer.

Fill with the darker color.

Selections - Select All
Selections - Modify - Contract by 2.
DELETE.
Selections - Select None.

Image - Canvas Size to 600x250, centered.

On both layers, Image - Free Rotate - 45, Left.

Add a new layer at the BOTTOM of your image.

Fill with black.

VM Extravaganza - Transmission changing the Line Width from 6 to 15.

You may find it easier to hide your two top layers for now.

On the Transmission layer, use your magic wand on one of the darker lines.

Selections - Modify - Select Color Range using the following setting:

Add a new layer.

Fill the selection with your darker color.

Selections - Invert.
Selections - Modify - Expand by 1.

Fill the new selection with your lighter color.

Selections - Select None.

Unhide the gradient layer, and highlight this layer.

Using your magic wand, click in the area to the RIGHT of the gradient.

Selections - Modify - Expand by 1.

Highlight the colored line layer, DELETE.

Selections - Select None.

Highlight the gradient layer again.

Using your magic wand, click in the area to the LEFT of the gradient.

Selections - Modify - Expand by 1.

Highlight the colored line layer.

Selections - Promote Selection as Layer.

Hide the promoted layer and the background layer (the original border layer is already hidden).

Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.

Change the opacity of this layer to 60.

Unhide the promoted layer, and bring it above the merged layer.

Change the opacity of this layer to 60.

Duplicate the promoted layer 2x (for a total of three).

On each of the promoted layers, DSB Flux - Bright Noise using Intensity - 47, hitting the Mix radial button each time.

Unhide and highlight the border layer (should be the top layer).

Add a sharp drop shadow (I used 1, 1, 100, 1, black).

Add your tube, and a blurry drop shadow (I used Eye Candy 5: Impact - Perspective Shadow with the Blurry preset).

Add a 2px selection border in your darker color.

Add your name, and any necessary copyright information.

Animate as usual.

For the avatar:

Duplicate your tag (Shift + D.)

Remove the layer with your main tube.

Crop to 150x150.

Add your 2 pixel selections border.

Add your name (or initial.)

You may, if you wish, choose to animate your avatar.

Here is another example, using the work of Irina Grank:
