S C R E E N

This tut was written on February 12, 2012.
It is written using PSPX; I'm sure the same effects are available in other versions.

SUPPLIES
A tube and a closeup.
I'm using the work of Tim Lowery.
A license and tubes for this artist may be purchased from PTE.

Make a copy of your regular-size tube (Shift + D); resize to 400 pixels high.

These filters:
MuRa's Meister - Cloud
Graphics Plus - Cross Shadow
Cybia Screenworks - Dot Screen
Simple - Horizontal Grain

Font of choice (I used "Island Moments").

Set one of your colors to light gray (#c0c0c0), set the other color to black.

This tutorial will show you how to make the larger tag first.
Then, I will show you how to make the forum set tag and avatar.

Let's begin!

STEP ONE

Open a new image, 600 px wide by 400 pixels high.

MuRa's Meister - Cloud; you may have to click the Reset button.

This image will be used as a mask later in the tutorial; set it aside for now.

STEP TWO

Open another new image, also 600x400.

Floodfill with the light gray.

Graphics Plus - Cross Shadow; set all numbers to 50.

STEP THREE

Add a new layer; floodfill with the light gray.

Cybia Screenworks - Dot Screen (there is only one setting Smiley ).

Add both the closeup and the regular-size tubes (not the resized tube), moving into position.

When you are ready, add the following drop shadow to both tubes (0, 15, 100, 40, black).

Change the setting to both tube layers to Luminance (Legacy).

Change the opacity of one tube layer to 45; change the opacity of the other to 55.

Layers - Merge - Merge Visible (make sure the gray background layer remains hidden).

STEP FOUR

Layers - New Mask Layer - From Image;

In the drop down under Source Window, find the Image # (found on the header of the image) of the Clouds image you set aside.

Click OK.

Layers - Merge - Merge Group.

Duplicate this layer.

Unhide the gray background layer.

STEP FIVE

Add your resized tube as a new layer, moving into position.
(Layers - Arrange - Bring To Top, if necessary.)

Add the same drop shadow (0, 15, 100, 40, black).

Add a new layer; floodfill with the light gray.

Cybia - Screenworks - Dot Screen.

Simple - Horizontal Grain; change the opacity of this new layer to 75.

STEP SIX

Pick a color from your tube; add a 2px Selection border using this color.

Add your name, any word art, and all necessary copyright information.

STEP SEVEN

To make the forum set and avatar:

Make a copy of your tag; crop to 600x250.
(If necessary, delete the tube and re-add; don't forget the drop shadow.

Add the 2px Selection border, your name, any word art, and all necessary copyright information.

For the avatar:

Make another copy of the larger tag; crop to 150x150.

Add the 2px Selection border, your name, any word art, and all necessary copyright information.

Here is another example, using the work of Anna Marine:

There is a lot of room to play in this tutorial.
You may choose to use images, masks, or other PSP effects.
The tutorial is meant for you to experiment...
