P I X E L

This tut was written on January 18, 2012.
It is written using PSPX; I'm sure the same effects are available in other versions.

SUPPLIES
A tube.
I'm using the work of Jennifer Janesko, formerly of CILM.
This artist is currently represented by CDO.

There is a lot of room for play in this tut.
You can use an image, or even a tube and a closeup.
An example using an image is shown at the bottom of this tut.

The following filter:
Graphics Plus - Pool Shadow
MuRa's Meister - Copies
DSB Flux - Bright Noise

Font of choice (I'm using "P22 Petemoss")

Choose two colors from your tube; the darker color as the foreground.
Make a foreground gradient as follows:

Open a new image, 50 wide x 50 high.

Selections - Select All.

Selections - Modify - Select Selection Borders using Inside, 2, anti-alias unchecked.

Fill the selection with your darker color.

Selections - Select None.

Set this image aside for a bit.

Open a new image, 600 wide x 600 high.

Floodfill with the gradient you created earlier.

Check the Invert button on your gradient.

Add a new layer.

Floodfill with the inverted gradient.

Selections Tool - Custom Selection using the following setting:

Image - Crop to Selection.

On the top layer, Distortion Effects - Pixelate using the following setting:

On the bottom layer, repeat the Pixelate effect but change the 10, 50 to 50, 10.

Highlight the top layer; change the opacity of this layer to 50.

Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.

Effects - Edge Effects - Enhance.

Add the 50x50 element you made first as a new layer.

Image - Free Rotate - Left, 45, neither box checked.

MuRa's Meister - Copies using the Line preset; change the top three numbers to 10, 0, 100.

Using your magic wand, set to Add (Shift), click in the nine center diamond shapes and the top/bottom triangles.

When you have finished selecting, Selections - Modify - Expand by 1.

Fill the selection with your darker color.

Selections - Select None.

Here is an example of what effect you are going for:

MuRa's Meister - Copies using the Line preset; change the top three numbers to 3, 100, 0.

Image - Resize - 105%.
Make sure the Resize All Layers box is unchecked.

Crop to 600x250 - very important!

Using your Magic Wand, click between either of the two elements.

Add your tube as a new layer, moving into position.

Selections - Modify - Expand by 1.

Selections - Invert.

DELETE.

Selections - Select None.

Duplicate the tube layer.

Image - Mirror.

Change the setting of the Mirrored layer to Luminance (Legacy); change the opacity to 35.

Move the tube layer below the element layer.

Duplicate the element layer.

On the bottom element layer, Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow using 1, 1, 100, 1, black.

Duplicate the top element layer two more times (for a total of three).

On each of the these three layers, DSB Flux - Bright Noise using Intensity = 45.
Hit the radial button before Mix each time.

Add a 2px Selection border, using your chosen color.

Add your name and all necessary copyright information.

Animate as usual.

For the avatar:

Duplicate your tag (Shift + D.)

Remove all unnecessary layers.

Crop to 150x150.

Add a new layer.

Add a 2px Selection border, using your chosen color.

Add your name (or initial) and all necessary copyright information.

You may animate, if you wish.

Here is another example, using the work of Jon Rattenbury.
This example shows how to use an image.
Use the magic wand to click in two spots.
Selections - Modify - Expand by 1.
Add your image, moving into position.
Selections - Invert.
DELETE.
Selections - Select None.
