D U A L
This tut was written on January 15, 2012. It is written using PSPX; I'm sure the same effects are available in other versions.
SUPPLIES A tube and an image. I'm using the work of Jennifer Janesko, formerly of CILM. This artist is currently represented by CDO.
This tut shows two different versions. The 2d version uses only an image. Further instructions on the 2d version will show in red below.
The following filter: Toadies - Look, Butthead, a TV!...
Font of choice (I'm using "Pegsanna")
Pick two shades of the same color from your tube. Make a foreground gradient as follows:
You may also use two contrasting colors.
Open a new image, 600 wide x 600 high.
Floodfill with your gradient.
Click the Invert button on your gradient.
Add a new layer.
Floodfill with the inverted gradient.
Toadies - Look, Butthead, a TV!... - using the default setting, but change the Total Scanline Width from 13 to 10.
Duplicate this layer.
Effects - Geometric Effects - Skew using Vertical, 33, Repeat.
Effects - Edge Effects - Enhance.
Layers - Merge - Merge Down.
Selections Tool - Custom Selection using the following setting:
Image - Crop to Selection.
Selections - Select None.
Selections Tool - Custom Selection using the following setting:
Highlight the merged layer.
DELETE.
Selections - Modify - Expand by 1.
Add your image as a new layer, moving into position.
Selections - Invert.
DELETE.
Selections - Select None.
Layers - Arrange - Move Down.
Change the setting of this layer to Luminance (Legacy); change the opacity to 80.
Highlight the merged layer.
Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow using 0, 0, 100, 10, Black.
Add your tube as a new layer.
Add a blurry drop shadow (I used Eye Candy 5: Impact - Perspective Shadow using the Blurry preset.)
Skip the following instructions in red and continue at the bottom of this tut.
Directions for using only an image:
When you do the 2d Custom Selection, do NOT Expand by 1.
Instead, follow these instructions:
Add a new layer.
Floodfill with either of your colors.
Selections - Select None.
Duplicate this layer.
Effects - Image Effects - Offset using Horizontal -180, Vertical 0, Custom radial clicked, Transparent.
Layers - Merge - Merge Down.
Selections - Select All. Selections - Float. Selections - Defloat.
DELETE.
Highlight the merged layer.
DELETE.
Highlight the layer with the selection.
Selections - Modify - Expand by 1.
Add your image as a new layer, moving into position.
Selections - Invert.
DELETE.
Selections - Select None.
Layers - Arrange - Move Down.
Highlight the merged layer.
Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow using 0, 0, 100, 10, Black.
Continue on with the rest of the tut as written.
Add a 2px Selection border, using your lightest color.
Add your name and all necessary copyright information.
For the avatar:
Duplicate your tag (Shift + D.)
Remove all unnecessary layers.
Crop to 150x150.
Add a new layer.
Add a 2px Selection border, using your lightest color.
Add your name (or initial) and all necessary copyright information.
Here is the 2d version, using an image by Jon Rattenbury.

the stripes should show up when you used the Toadies - Look, Butthead! a TV.. filter.
the red text in the tut is only if you want to use a single image instead of a tube...

My try at it. I have used an alternative for the Toadies-filter. Since the one in the tutorial didn't show up in my list.
Hope you like it, Rich and thanks for the ©-tip. It looks so neat.
Hugs, ~Anna~

I use Windows 7 and PSPXI and PSP4, and can't use any of the VM filters. Even with FM Patcher or other updaters, they just won't work with WIN7. Hoping eventually the Filter makers will update them but until then I just made do.

hmmmm...i have windows7 on my lappy, but i don't remember how i got the filters to work there's a member at The Zone Groups calld "Lithium Flower" who helped, i do know that... you should be able to get a similar effect by using DSB Flux - Linear Transmission (i think that's what it's called) huggs R
