S C R A M B L E R

This tut was written on February 18, 2012.
It is written using PSPX; I'm sure the same effects are available in other versions.

SUPPLIES
A tube and a closeup; you may also use a single tube.
I'm using an exclusive tube by Jose Cano, formerly of MPT.
A license and others tubes for this artist may be purchased from PTE.

Resize your tube now, if necessary.
Add a blurry drop shadow to your tube (I used 0, 15, 100, 40, black).
Increase the canvas size 50 pixels on each side to avoid unpleasant sharp edges.

These filters:
Filter Factory Gallery F - Scrambler
MuRa's Meister - Copies

Font of choice (I used "Avalon Bold").

You will also need my selections; download the zipped file HERE.
Unzip the file to your Selections folder.

Choose a darker color for your background color, and a lighter shade of the same color for your foreground.
Make a foreground gradient (Linear, Angle = 90, Repeats = 1, you want the darker color in the center).

STEP ONE

Open a new image, 50 px wide by 400 pixels high.

Floodfill with your gradient.

Filter Factory Gallery F - Scrambler using the default setting (Intensity = 27).

Image - Canvas Size to 600x400, centered.

MuRa's Meister - Copies using the Tiling preset at the default setting.

Effects - Edge Effects - Enhance.

This is the background layer; hide it for now.

STEP TWO

Set either of your colors to black; add a new layer.

Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Disk.
Choose ScramblerSelection1.

Floodfill the hearts with black.

Selections - Select None.

Duplicate this layer twice (for a total of three.)

Hide the top heart layer for now.

STEP THREE

Highlight the top unhidden heart layer.

MuRa's Meister - Copies using the H-Tile(line) preset at the default setting.

On the other heart layer, repeat the same effect but change the Shift Y number from -70 to 70.

Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.

Change the opacity of this merged layer to 25.

STEP FOUR

Unhide and highlight the top heart layer.

Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Disk.
Choose ScramblerSelection2.

Floodfill this selection with black.

Selections - Select None.

MuRa's Meister - Copies using the Line preset but change the top three numbers from 8, 100, 0 to 3, 0, 100.

Selection Tool (set to Rectangle), carefully draw a rectangle around the middle of the three elements.

DELETE.

STEP FIVE

Add your closeup and tube (as separate layers), moving it into position.

Move the closeup layer so that it is directly above the background layer.
Change the setting of this layer to Soft Light.

Move the regular-sized tube layer below the top layer.

STEP SIX

Highlight the top hearts layer.

Using your Magic Wand, click anywhere in the space between the two elements.

Selections - Modify - Expand by 1.

Selections - Invert

Hit DELETE on the regular-sized tube layer, the merged hearts layer, and the closeup layer.

Selections - Select None.

Add a 2px Selection border using black.

Add your name, any word art, and all necessary copyright information.

STEP SEVEN

For the forum set tag:

Duplicate your 600x400 tag (Shift + D); crop to 600x250.

Add your 2px Selection border, your name, any word art, and all necessary copyright information.

I found it worked best if I deleted the regular-sized tube layer and added it again as a new layer.
It just looked better to me.

For the avatar:

Duplicate your 600x400 tag (Shift + D) once more; crop to 150x50.

I deleted both tube layers, but you may wish to keep them.

Add your 2px Selection border, your name (or initial), any word art, and all necessary copyright information (if necessary.)

Here is another example, using a popular tube by LegendsArt:
(You'll see that I filled both selections with white.)

T H R E E

This tut was written on February 05, 2012.
It is written using PSPX; I'm sure the same effects are available in other versions.

SUPPLIES
A tube and a closeup; you may also use an image.
A sample of this tutorial using an image, and some instructions, are included at the bottom of this tutorial.
I'm using the work of Keith Garvey, formerly of MPT.
A license and tubes for this artist may be purchased from PTE.

These filters:
Xero - Fritallary
Graphics Plus - Cross Shadow

Font of choice (I used "Confection").

You will also need this mask.
I showed how to create this mask in an earlier tutorial, so you may have already saved it.
If not, right click and save to your computer.
(You may also simply right click, click on Copy, and paste as a new image in your PSP.)

Pick a medium/dark color from your tube as your foreground color;
Choose a different shade of the same color as your background,
this color will be used for the border and name.

Let's begin!

STEP ONE

Open a new image, 600 px wide by 250 pixels high.

Floodfill with your chosen color.

Duplicate this layer 2x (for a total of three).

Hide the top two layers, and highlight the bottom layer.

Xero - Fritallary using these four numbers, going down: 50, 30, 10, 0.

Effects - Edge Effects - Enhance 2x.

STEP TWO

Add the closeup tube (or masked image) as a new layer, moving into position.

Adjust - Hue & Saturation - Colorize, both boxes set to 0.

Change the opacity of this layer to 35.

STEP THREE

Unhide and highlight the middle color layer.

Graphics Plus - Cross Shadow using the default setting.
If the color becomes too distorted, change the intensity to 50.

Xero - Fritallary using the default setting (5, 30, 10, 0).
Simply hit the Reset button.

Effects - Edge Effects - Enhance.

Change the opacity of this layer to 35.

STEP FOUR

Unhide and highlight the top color layer.

Xero - Fritallary using these four numbers, going down: 10, 30, 10, 20.

Use the mask from the top of this tutorial as usual, but click the INVERT TRANSPARENCY button.
If you are using the Load/Save from Disk option, the black stripe of the mask should be in the middle.

STEP FIVE

Add your regular-sized tube (or masked image) as a new layer, moving into position.

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow using 0, 5, 50, 5, black (or another drop shadow of your choice).

Add a 2px Selection border in your chosen color.

Add your name, any word art, and all necessary copyright information.

The tag is ready for animation.

Before we animate, make a duplicate of the tag (Shift + D); this will be used to make the matching avatar.
Set the duplicate aside for a bit.

STEP SIX

Working with the tag, Edit - Copy Merged.

In AS, Edit - Paste - As New Animation.

Back in PSP, highlight the masked Fritallary layer; then Image - Flip.

Edit - Copy Merged.

In AS, Edit - Paste - After Current Frame.

Change the Animation - Frame Properties to 40 for both frames.

Save as a .gif file.

STEP SEVEN

Working with the duplicate you set aside, crop to 150x150.
The size of the bottom fritallary layer allows you to make a perfect 3x3 square.

Add your 2px Selection border.

Add your name (or initial) and all necessary copyright information.

Save as a .png file.

For the avatar, make a copy of the 600x250 tag.

Crop to 150x150.

Add your name (or initial) and any necessary copyright information.

Here is another example, also using the work of Keith Garvey:

Here is an example using an image, using the work of Anna Marine:

To use an image, first Layers - Promote Background Layer, if necessary.

Use the included mask as usual, but DO NOT Invert Transparency.

Layers - Merge - Merge Group.

Use this masked image in place of tubes in the tutorial.
