This tut was written on November 16, 2010.
It is written using PSPX; I'm sure the same effects are available in other versions.

SUPPLIES
A tube, preferable a large closeup.
I'm using the work of Ismael Rac. You need to purchase a license to use this work at his store HERE (http://store.xeracx.net).
This tube was purchased when the artist was with AMI.

The following filters:
FunHouse - Chaos Mirror
Greg's Factory Output Vol. II - Pool Shadow
MuRa's Meister - Copies

Font of choice (I'm using "Leisure Script")

Let's begin!

Pick a dark color from your tube as the foreground color, a lighter shade of the same color for the background.

Open a new image, 600x250

Fill with a foreground gradient - Linear, Angle = 45, Repeats = 10.

FunHouse - Chaos Mirror - changing Uncertainty from 72 to 227.
(You get different animation effects by changing this to different numbers.)

Effects - Edge Effects - Enhance.

Adjust - Add/Remove Noise - Add Noise using Uniform, 12, Monochrome checked.

Greg's Factory Output, Vol. II - Pool Shadow changing Intensity to 50.

Duplicate this layer.
Image - Mirror.
Duplicate this layer.
Image - Flip.
Duplicate this layer.
Image - Mirror.
You should have four layers.
Make sure all layers are unhidden, and save as a .pspimage to somewhere you can find it.

Hide all four layers.
Change your gradient to Linear, Angle = 45, Repeats = 0.
Add a new layer, and fill with your new gradient.
Repeat both the noise and Pool Shadow you did earlier.

Change your foreground to Null, and your background to black.

Using the font, Impact - size 36 - as a vector, type an "X".
Objects - Align - Center in Canvas.
Layers - Convert to Raster Layer.

MuRa's Meister - Copies using the default Tiling preset changing the number from 1 to 2.

Selections - Select All.
Selections - Float.
Selections - Defloat.
Selections - Invert.

Highlight the new gradient layer, and DELETE.
Selections - Select None.
Delete the black Impact layer.

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow using 1, 1, 100, 1, black.

Add your tube, and a blurry drop shadow (I used Eye Candy 5 Impact - Perspective Shadow with the Blurry preset.)

Add a 2px selection border using your dark color.

Add your name and all necessary copyright information.

TO ANIMATE:
Make sure the four background layers are hidden.
Edit - Copy Merged.

In Animation Shop, Edit - Paste as New Animation.
Duplicate so you have four frames.

Edit - Select All.
Edit - Copy.

Open your saved image you created earlier.
Edit - Select All.
Edit - Paste Into Selected Frame.

For the avatar:

Open the saved .pspimage you made earlier in PSP.

Crop to 150x150.

Save this new 150x150 image as a .pspimage to somewhere you can finde it.

Highlight the Impact layer on the 600x250 image.
Edit - Copy.

On the 150x150 image, Edit - Paste as a New Layer.

Add your 2px selection border.

Add your initial and any necessary copyright information.

Animate as before.

Here is another example, also using the work of Elias Chatzoudis:
