I M A G E
This tut was written on October 28, 2010. It is written using PSPX; I'm sure the same effects are available in other versions.
SUPPLIES An image, at least 600px in width. I'm using the work of Jon Rattenbury, an artist formerly with MPT.
The following filters: MuRa's Meister - Copies
Font of choice (I'm using "A&S Heartbeat" for the wordart and "Salinas" for the name.)
Let's begin!
Pick a color from your image for the foreground, and black in the background.
Crop your image to 600x250. Edit - Copy.
Open a new image, 400x250.
Selections - Select All.
Edit - Paste Into Selection.
Selections - Select None.
Effects - Distortion Effects - Pixelate using 12, Symmetric checked.
Adjust - Blur - Motion Blur using Angle = 45, Strength = 100.
Image - Mirror. Image - Flip.
Repeat the Motion Blur.
Effect - Edge Effects - Enhance 2x.
Image - Canvas Size to 600x250, centered.
MuRa's Meister - Copies using the Line preset.
Selection Tool - Custom Selection using the following setting:
DELETE.
Selections - Select None.
Repeat the MuRa's Copies.
Selection Tool - Custom Selection using the following setting.
DELETE.
Selections - Select None.
Duplicate this layer.
Image - Mirror.
Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.
Image - Flip.
Add a new layer.
Selection Tool - Custom Selection using the following setting.
Fill the selection with black.
Selections - Select None.
Repeat the MuRa's Copies.
Selections - Select All. Selections - Float. Selections - Defloat.
Add your image as a new layer.
Selections - Promote Selection to Layer.
On the layer with the image, DELETE.
KEEP SELECTED!
Highlight the promoted layer.
Selections - Modify - Select Selection Borders using Both Sides, 1, anti-alias unchecked.
Add a new layer.
Fill this selection with your foreground color.
Selections - Select None.
Add a 2px selection border using your foreground color to this layer.
Move the image layer so that it is right above the background layer.
Effects - Texture Effects - Weave using the following settting:
Change the layer setting on this layer to Soft Light.
Highlight the layer with the black bars.
Add a blurry drop shadow (I used 0, 0, 100, 15, black.)
Add your name, and any necessary copyright information.
For the avatar:
Duplicate your tag (Shift + D.)
Crop to 150x150.
Add your 2 pixel selections border.
Add your name (or initial), and any necessary copyright information.
**NOTE**
This tut leaves a lot of room for play. In this sample (using art by Anna Liwanag), I didn't use the Motion Blur and I used a tube:

Boy, you must have played a lot to come up with this. I looked at it before I started and it seemed fairly simple but, all those steps. I finally just gave myself up to it and quit thinking. Came out great. Thanks, Rich.
